Read about Skip Sizes.

Skip Types and Sizes

One of the main factors in the hire of a skip is the size required. This depends on the size and type of waste being removed. There are several sizes available.

Here are some examples of skip sizes and the amount of waste to remove :

The Mini Skip: suitable for small domestic jobs. It can hold between 20 to 30 bin bags. Quite a popular size when the project is generally clearing out a small attic for instance.

The Small Skip: ideally for home improvement work, removing a bathroom or kitchen for example. It can hold 4 cubic yards or in my language 30 to 40 bin bags.

The Small Builders Skip: used for small building projects or DIY . Builders do have a choice though depending on the work involved, but this will hold 50 to 60 bags.

The Large Builder Skip: holding 60 to 80 bin bags and is the eight yard skip holding heavier waste, soil rubble and some big projects of office re-fits or shop clearances.

The Giant of Skips The Maxi: used for large refurbishment. It is 12 yards and holds an average 120 bin bags. Although there is a disadvantage with the maxi, it cannot hold heavy waste as legally the skip lorry would not be allowed to remove it due to its size. The maxi has to be kept on a driveway as many councils refuse to have them on the road side.

There are certain rules and regulations with some councils and can differ in all areas. It is a good idea to consult with them regarding the legal issues and where it can be kept, however we will also be able to guide you on this. If you have a garden or parking space then it is your private land and the council need not be informed.
